Victims of sex trafficking - in addition to having to overcome the trauma of the physical and emotional abuse they were subject to - rather than being supported through a healing process, are criminalized and wrongfully prosecuted and convicted for the crimes of their abusers. Minors are often even prosecuted as adults. Sex traffickers take advantage of individuals who are vulnerable and those who are most affected are members of marginalized communities.

BEHAVIOR EXHIBITTED BY PIMPS/TRAFFICKERS

- Jealous, controlling and violent
- Significantly older than female      companions

- Buys expensive gifts or owns expensive  items
- Is vague about his/her profession
- Pushy or demanding about sex
- Encourages inappropriate sexual  behavior
- Makes the victim feel responsible for  his/her financial stability. Very open  about financial matters

"Hello, my name is [NAME] and I am calling to demand that the charges against Zephania Trevino be dropped. Zehpania should not be charged for a crime committed by her abuser. She is a victim of sex trafficking and rather than being wrongfully prosecuted for a crime she did not commit, she should be given the support needed to overcome the trauma that she has experienced. Additionally, I ask that the Dallas District Attorney's Office implement training in order to recognize victims of sex trafficking."
